The archaeological site Laderas del Castillo, located in the Sierra de Callosa de Segura, within the Municipal Natural Park “La Pilarica-Sierra de Callosa”, is a key reference for the study of the Argaric culture, a civilization that flourished in the southeastern peninsular around 2000 BC. This historical enclave has been the object of an integral project of conservation, restoration and enhancement, promoted by the City Council of Callosa de Segura, which combines archaeological rigor with an innovative approach to museum design and accessibility.
Among the interventions carried out, the excavation and consolidation of key structures of the site stand out, together with the installation of metal sheet walkways, which not only guarantee the protection of the archaeological remains, but also make it passable, facilitating the understanding of the space for visitors. The musealized areas, such as sectors 1 and 3, incorporate interpretive signs and modern visual technologies that enrich the experience, allowing a complete immersion in the history and context of the site.
This project, which combines archaeology, technology and architectural design, has transformed Laderas del Castillo into a model of sustainable management of archaeological heritage in Alicante, making this important legacy accessible to diverse audiences. The itineraries, together with the rest areas and educational resources, offer an experience that connects past and present, promoting knowledge and conservation of this unique Bronze Age enclave.
To visit Laderas del Castillo is to enter a historical narrative that spans millennia, discovering the relevance of the Argaric culture and its impact on the evolution of the territory. A perfect example of how the enhancement of archaeological heritage can be integrated into the natural and cultural landscape, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
