Dianivm, Daniya, Dénia… A city of the sea

The museographic proposal for Dianivm, Daniya, Dénia… A city of the sea moves the archaeological wealth of Denia to its new home: the Palace of the Duchess Valero de Palma, a recently rehabilitated space in Cavallers street that, after years of restoration, has become the Archaeological Museum of Denia. This museum stands as a place accessible and open to the public, designed to preserve the history of the city and offer a complete and captivating journey through its past.

In this exhibition, visitors can explore the evolution of Dénia from its origins in prehistoric times, with the first settlements documented at the site of l’Alt de Benimaquia, to its period of splendor as a port and privileged enclave of the Mediterranean. Each room is designed to immerse the visitor in the different historical periods of Dénia, showing the vestiges of its various stages, from Roman antiquity to the Islamic period and its evolution as a commercial city.

This new museum not only responds to the needs of conservation and exhibition of the heritage of Denia, but also anticipates a future expansion of the exhibition discourse, allowing the museum to continue to evolve and expand its collection and narrative in future phases. Thus, a broader and deeper vision of the archaeological collections of the city is projected, enriching the visitor’s connection with Dénia’s Mediterranean past.
