The exhibition “The 19th Century. The Collection to the Light” at the Museum of Fine Arts of Alicante MUBAG, offers a unique experience of immersion in the rich cultural heritage of Alicante. This renovation project has returned the historic 18th century Casa-Palacio del Conde Lumiares to its original authenticity, restoring its splendor and re-imagining the exhibition space to highlight the works of outstanding 19th century Alicante artists.
The museographic design of the exhibition focuses on a philosophy of “taking away” rather than adding, removing layers accumulated over the past 20 years to reveal the historical essence of the building. The original windows, now restored, flood the rooms with natural light, creating an ideal environment for the exhibition of artistic pieces.
The intervention remodels the exhibition design to adapt to the new museographic needs, integrating innovative supports inspired by the lattice guides of the art deposits. These display “combs” combine functionality with a minimalist aesthetic, balancing the practicality of storage with the authenticity of the art conservation process. The exhibition presents the works as if they were part of an “art warehouse”, allowing the public to discover hidden details and nuances in a carefully designed environment.
“The 19th Century. La Colección a la Luz” not only provides a window into the artistic richness of Alicante, but also offers an enriching experience that combines history, art and innovative design. Come explore how the renovation of these MUBAG rooms in the Casa Palacio del Conde Lumiares transforms the way we appreciate Alicante’s art and culture.
